Obituary of Angelo A Spilatro
Angelo A. Spilatro, age 92 of Tewksbury Township, NJ, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ.
Born in North Plainfield, NJ he was the son of the late Charles and Francesca Spilatro.
He grew up in Plainfield and had lived in Hunterdon County for the past 45 years.
Angelo and his first wife, Doris started their first business, Start Right Nursery School in Green Brook, NJ, in 1952. This business was very successful. In 1956, Angelo started building the Pelican Store in Whitehouse, NJ which over the years grew into a chain of stores located throughout NJ and into PA. He was a true entrepreneur with a work ethic and vision that allowed him to start with nothing and build a legacy which he leaves to his entire family. Pelican now employs over 200 people. He worked hard his entire life to make sure his seven children had the foundation they needed to succeed in this world. He built his business and family with love, strength and respect and he will be remembered lovingly by his employees, his friends and most of all his family.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Rose Diamente and Vera Sanderson; his two grandsons, Brett and Casey Spilatro and by his stepdaughter, Kathy Lori Torchia.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen; his four sons, Stephen and his wife, Edna, Gerald, Kenneth and Andrew and his wife, Carrie; his three daughters, Margaret Milliken and her partner, Tim Goodman, Viola Markus and her husband, William and Diane Dinkel and her husband, Charles; his stepson, Peter Heyny and by 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A visitation, with a time for sharing remembrances, will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM with a service beginning at 5:30 PM followed by Military Honors all at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.
