I learned of the passing of this amazing person just this past weekend. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. When Dr. Painter left for Manhattan, we were crushed to lose her as our Coconut's doctor and her advocate. She saved Cocont's life and we will be forever grateful. It was a long battle to save Coconut and one that may have ended in loss but Dr. Painter would not give up. She was one of the best Veterinarians I have ever known and being involved with rescues & fosters for over 40 years, I've known quite a few. She was alway. always very compassionate and happy to see you and your cat. I am simply devastated by her passing. I am finding the loss impossible to put into words. I can only put it in tears. Tears for Dr. Painter. Tears for her family. Tears for all the cats she brought back to good health. And mostly, tears for all the cats that will not have the honor of being cared for by this extraordinary Veterinarian & woman. Rest is peace, beautiful soul. Know that your are missed beyond words.

I am devastated by the news of Dr Painter's passing. She was so helpful and caring with my cat Mamie. I think of Dr. Painter every day when I give my cat some medicine that Dr Painter suggested might help. She was a joyous spirit and so kind. It is a tragedy beyond words that she is gone.

I was both a client and friend of Nicola Painter's when she was in Philadelphia. She was a wonderful person--warm, generous with her time and generous of her spirit. She came to my house to attend to a feral rescue too fearful to travel. She was a remarkable vet, a true friend to animals and to animal rescuers, and the world needs more women like her, not fewer. What a tragic loss.
My sincerest condolences to all who loved her. I am writing this through tears and can only say that I hope her memory is as a blessing to her family and friends.

I owe a lot of little lives to Dr. Painter. For the past 3 years she’s helped so many of my fosters and has been a constant guide with all the new types of ailments/illness I have experienced with cats in street rescue. She was very friendly and warm, we could talk forever but there was always another patient to be seen because she a wonderful vet. It’s so hard to believe she is gone, the world needs more people like her in it, not one less. To her family I am so very sorry for your loss, please know that in her short time here she made a difference in so many lives and will continue to live on through us all.

My heart goes out to Dr. Painter's family and friends. I am beyond heartbroken to hear the news of this tremendous loss. On one of her very first days at MCS, she helped me and my cat Morgan as she passed onto the rainbow bridge. She was so soothing and professional during and afterwards. Since then I had been seeing her regularly with my other cat, who she affectionately nicknamed "Squirrel Mouse". I am going to miss her genuine kindness and dedication to her patients and clients. Truly tragic and taken from us too soon.

Just the other day my cat Ming was not eating. Dr. Painter was so caring. She held him in her arms, gave him fluids and b12 and he was fine the next day. She also took care of my other cat Ella, who has cancer. I’m so so sorry to hear about this. I am devastated!

I couldn't believe the news that Dr. Painter had passed away, because she was such an amazing, strong, smart, and courageous woman. I couldn't, and can't, imagine this world without her. I had the utmost privilege to work with her as one of her right-hand women at Manhattan Cat Specialists. She was an amazing friend, surgeon, doctor, dentist, boss, and mentor. She treated me like her little sister, and took me under her wing to teach me everything she knew. I will miss her dearly, tremendously, with the deepest tears and the deepest sorrows.

Dr. Painter saw my precious Mystique, who was scheduled for a dental cleaning but had an eye infection, which prevented her from having the scheduled procedure. From those few moments with her, I saw her caring, compassion and expertise as she examined my dear baby, and I was planning to return for the procedure. My deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. I am so sorry for her loss. She will be deeply missed by so many.

I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Painter’s passing. I only recently met her when my cat had an unexplained mouth problem. Dr. Painter was compassionate, patient, and helpful. I felt comfortable and confident my cat was in the best hands, especially since Dr. Painter had expertise in feline dental issues. This is so tragic. I send my condolences to her family, friends, loved ones, patients, and colleagues. We are all worse off for this huge loss but better for having known her. Really and I will miss her!

Extending my most heartfelt sympathy to the family, loved ones, patients, colleagues and friends of this extraordinary, extraordinary woman. Her contributions as a veterinarian cannot be measured. The skill she had, the compassion she had, the difference Nicola made to our rescue cats again and again and again can never be measured or replaced. Staying online with me in the middle of the night with so many sick and injured cats, always available for information and advice, her understanding of the brokenness of the cats we help was a gift beyond measure. And finally, as she became a close personal friend, our heart to heart talks and sharing, the jokes and laughter, the shared experiences in the insane world of rescue, her gentle wisdom and her unfailingly loving nature, to the depths of her being, are things I will remember and treasure always. Nicola, I know the ones over the Rainbow Bridge are now the lucky beneficiaries of your beautiful soul. I am happy for them, but I will truly miss you forever. Until we meet again, my friend. I love you. Pat Maloney

Dr Painter helped me through the hardest time of my life when my cat Malcolm was dying. She gave me a hug every time I left. We both went to Brown and both lived in Philly at the same time but never knew each other until she became our doctor. We were emailing just two weeks ago about my other cat. I was heartbroken at my appointment on Tuesday to hear the news. Hope my Malcolm is purring with you in heaven Dr Painter. Xoxo
